From the Grand Canal one approaches San Geremia as one approaches its neighbor Palazzo Labia. A church has stood on this site since the 8th Century. The section on the left with scaffolding, built in 1863, is the apse of the church and the altar and tomb of St. Lucy. The Romanesque bell tower is from the 11th Century. Part of this was rebuilt because of damage from the Austrian bombardment of 1848. A severe fire destroyed much of the main facade –under scaffolding on the right—in 1998.
