Saints Dominic and Catherine of Siena sit on the second tier of the altar. Saints John and Paul, dressed like soldiers (defenders of the faith) stand on each side of the third tier. Behind is a polygonal apse with two levels of soaring Gothic windows, separated by a middle tier of round ones. Light streams through the open spaces of the altar, which is built like a triumphal arch. As such, it is meant to symbolize the triumph of Christian faith.
