When this temple was restored in the 18th Century, a women's gallery was added above and outside the main room. The carved wood lattice grates of the women's gallery are the highest friezes running around the room, just under the ceiling. The women could watch the worship service through the lattice grates. Below those grates are several ornate wood panels, painted and gilded. They form a series with symbols of events from the history of the Jews that make this synagogue unique.
