Santa Maria Formosa - Venice, Italy
Vincenzo Cappello façade

Vincenzo Cappello stands over his crypt which is balanced on a winged skull. He stands proud and tall for a reason. As an Admiral he defeated the Turks. He died in 1541. If you 'zoom' this photo you can see an accurate reproduction of a Venetian oared fighting galley in the stone base of his crypt. The statue is by Pietro Grazioli da Salo, a student of Sansovino.
