The central panel of God the Father is an intrepetation of a Byzantine prototype. It is somewhat unusual to see this in the 17th Century as Venice seemed to be looking forward rather than backward during this period. The ceiling is by Pietro Antonio Torri and Pietro Ricchi.
Pietro Ricchi b. 1606 - d. 1675 His nickname was 'Il Lucchese' because he was born in Lucca. He died in Udine. His formation was cosmopolitan. He studied in Bologna and Rome, and traveled throughout Italy and France. He settled in Venice. His paintings and frescoes are in San Giuseppe di Castello, San Pietro di Castello, and works on the upper floor (now deteriorated) of the Scuola del Cristo, near San Marcuola church. He collaborated on the impressive ceiling at San Alvise. His works are elsewhere in the Veneto, for example, in San Lorenzo, Verolanuova.
