The Prybils started out as machinists evolved into manufacturing. They first made woodworking machines, then lathes and other industrial machinery at various factories in the west forties in Manhattan. Pryibil made the first tilting band saw, or ship saw, which was patented in 1871. One can find ads for them from 1887 to 1913. The family was wealthy enough to have an estate in Glen Cove, Long Island, now part of the municipal golf course. There is a beach there named for them in Glen Cove now. The firm is long gone now. Antique tools made by them do turn up on the market however. The end of the 19th century was the advent of full-scaled manufacturing. This is forgotten now, but the advent of the machine age added greatly to productivity. It allowed a single man to do the work of 10 and to do things that could not have been done before.
